MEDICA 2011 features first European Hospital Conference

As part of MEDICA 2011 in Düsseldorf, World Forum for Medicine (16–19 November), and the concurrent 34th German Hospital Conference, 18 November will see the premiere of the 1st European Hospital Conference. This event is aimed at top decision-makers from clinics in Europe with programme content coordinated by the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation (HOPE), the European Association of Hospital Managers (EAHM) and European Association of Senior Hospital Physicians (AEMH).

Key among the items for discussion at the 1st European Hospital Conference will be current aspects of European healthcare policy as well as the impact of the European Patients’ Rights Directive on clinics within the territory of the EU.

“With its great international flair and range of topics consistently aimed at the needs of healthcare decision-makers the world’s largest medical fair MEDICA is an established meeting point for clinic management. Together with the leading national event for the clinic sector, the German Hospital Conference, it thereby offers the ideal setting for the EUROPEAN HOSPITAL CONFERENCE,” said Joachim Schäfer, Managing Director at Messe Düsseldorf, who sees the internationally geared English-language conference as a useful addition.

Also new in the programme is the MEDICA Wound Care Forum in Hall 6. Taking place on every day of the event this forum, set up in collaboration with the German Institute for Wound Healing (Deutsches Institut für Wundheilung – DIW),  will provide information at the heart of the fair on current trends and approaches for the treatment of chronic wounds. “This move means we can implement our mid-term strategy developed with the Exhibitors’ Advisory Board and link up exhibitors’ product presentations at the trade fair with direct knowledge transfer in the form of specialist lectures, user reports and discussions in affiliated forums; all this within the halls of the exhibition,” said Horst Giesen, Director at Messe Düsseldorf for MEDICA.

The MEDICA TECH FORUM will once again highlight innovations in medical technology, for instance in the field of imaging together with the other  established theme parks, MEDICA MEDIA Forum (telemedicine/medical IT), MEDICA VISION Forum (innovation forum for research institutions) and the MEDICA PHYSIO Forum (physiotherapy).

Main themes at MEDICA include: electromedicine/medical technology, laboratory technology/diagnostics, physiotherapy/orthopaedic technology, medical products (commodities and consumables), information and communication technology, medical furnishings as well as special room fittings and building service technology for clinics and medical practices.

MEDICA and COMPAMED well subscribed
Organisers of MEDICA 2011 anticipate that around 4,500 exhibitors will participate on approximately 116,000 square metres of booked exhibition space – representing an increase over the previous event.

Playing a key part at MEDICA 2011 as an established fixture alongside the German Hospital Conference is the MEDICA Congress – with several thousand participants the largest multidisciplinary further training forum for medicine in Germany.

Held in parallel to MEDICA 2011 is COMPAMED 2011 (16–18 November) – the leading international market platform for upstream medical supplies. Situated in Halls 8a and 8b approximately 600 exhibitors will offer a comprehensive spectrum of high-tech solutions for the medical technology industry, for instance micro systems technology, nano technologies, new materials as well as packaging and services. Forming a special focal point here are “Electronic Manufacturing Services” (EMS), i.e. the manufacturing of complete orders for components and devices including complex product test services for quality assurance.

A unique combination worldwide, MEDICA and COMPAMED cover the entire process chain and the full range of medical products, devices and instruments. Together the two fairs occupy Düsseldorf’s entire exhibition centre.

In 2010 the two events counted a total of 137,200 trade visitors of whom 16,000 were specifically interested in the topics offered at COMPAMED. Almost half the visitors came from abroad. In addition to the fairs’ highly international flavour another key success factor is the high number of decision-makers who attend the events. 72% of visitors play a pivotal or significant role in purchasing decisions.
